THE F STOPS HERE!

This is the place to meet people who put their love of photography before their technical ability.  You don’t need to be technical to take great pictures  – in fact I firmly believe it’s better if you’re not!  I have spent 25 years in an industry which has traditionally been very technical, and I’ve spent most of that time banging my drum and trying to change it.  I have come up against many brick walls, but I’ve gone round them, climbed over them and finally pushed through them. 

I decided long ago that the technical stuff was not for me – I shoot from the heart, I work emotionally and I really understand how it feels to be on both sides of the camera. I hate being cluttered with equipment; it just gets in the way. I have no interest in what every button on my camera does – I just use the ones that work for me. I listen to lots of ideas and keep a keen eye on what’s happening around me, and when it appeals to me, I include it in what I do.

I have met some amazing people who are totally on my wavelength and together we’ve built up an industry of like-minded photographers.  I've met people who know everything about their camera and all their equipment, but take pretty boring pictures, and I've met those who know very little about their cameras, but take really inspirational pictures full of emotion and feeling.

Digital cameras have changed photography forever.  The iPhone and all those amazing camera apps are changing it again. These are some of the most exciting times in the history of photography so far!

I get many emails every day from people who want to learn more about photography, and you know what? - Most people want to know very similar things - so I've decided to create a blog where we can communicate together and share all that knowledge.

I am not sure where this will lead, but I know it's going to be fun.  I can guarantee I've been through most of the ups and downs of being a creative person - just like you!  I love learning and sharing what I've learnt - and I hope you will too.

Over the coming months I'll tell you all about my latest SHOOTS, share lots of interesting STUFF that's happening in the UK and the US, and answer any photography QUESTIONS you might have. This will be rather like a magazine, where I will update the content once a month - I don't think many of us have time to read blogs every week, I personally don't like constant updates coming to my Inbox, and you probably don't either!

The lady behind the lens

WHAT's my credibility?

25 years as a photographer, trainer, and people-person.

Lecture tours and shoots - virtually every country from the USA to New Zealand, South Africa to the Arctic Circle. (I have yet to teach penguins in the Antarctic).

Newspapers and magazines – just about all of the important ones!  And some very obscure ones too.

Television - many features from Richard & Judy to The Clothes Show! - (Although I've definitely never appeared on X Factor, due to a severe lack of talent in the singing department!)

AND… I just love people and love finding out what makes them tick.  Whether this is taking their photo, or teaching them how to take their own photos - it's all down to understanding people, the way they think, and being able to get things across in a simple way - I don't like fuss or technicality, and I find many others feel the same way too.

It IS possible to really enjoy yourself both in front of and behind the camera - I know, I've done it - and I love it!
